Since then, the group that has remained a steady flagship sponsor collectively raised $41,995! The group is reaching for the stars with a fundraising goal of $50,000 this year. “It was important for this women's group of business leaders to wrap its arms around this event since breast cancer impacts so many women and men in our region,” conveyed Sheri Cates, founder of the Mount Airy Women in Motion. “I know in my heart that through the tremendous community support we can reach our fundraising goal.” With innovative fundraising events, such as the now annual “Feel the Churn Butter Aerobics,” the Group has been able raise holds an annual raffle benefit Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Central Maryland. Participants will be able to see the basket completely filled with gifts and purchase tickets at Making Strides The winner of the raffle will be notified on Monday, October 17. Typically, the basket is valued at $500. “We enjoy seeing the community come out to support Making Strides,” said Mary Ford-Naill. “Whether you are an individual, part of a team or want to create your own team to walk, we welcome you to enjoy making strides.” The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer kicks off at 9:00 a.m. with the walk at 10:00 a.m. at Watkins Park just off of Route 27 North in Mount Airy. The three-mile Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk that takes the enjoyable scenic route through the rolling hills of Watkins Park to Mount Airy’s Historic Main Street and loops back to the park through Mount Airy’s Old Main Line’s Rails-to-Trails hiking path.
